Rising Water
By John Biguenet
A touching and timely
drama chronicling a day during Hurricane Katrina, this searing new play (and
Pulitzer nominee) is from New Orleans
playwright John Biguenet. Funny, poignant and engaging, this NY
premiere closes the Shadowland season.
An older couple is forced to weather the deadly
storm in their attic and eventually, on the roof of their home. Trapped among a lifetime of their possessions
and memories, Camille and “Sug” must now confront their
rocky marriage and history as they wait for a rescue that may never come. They
reflect on the details of their lives and a relationship, like many, filled
with disappointment, betrayal and loss.
And on the tiny island of their home they sit and wait for rescue and
redemption…
“A rich mixture of tragedy and humor . . . the play grabbed
the audience in its first tense moments and never let go. ‘Rising
Water’ is more like cream, rising to the top." -The Times-Picayune
