July 18 – August 10 Black Comedy By Peter Shaffer One of the funniest
British farces of all time, Black Comedy was nominated for a Tony for Best
Play. Based on a highly entertaining
convention, the theatrical premise is simple:
when the lights onstage are off, the characters in the story are in the
light …when the lights onstage are on, the characters
in the story are in the dark – allowing the audience to be thrilled by the
slips, falls and antics of life during a blackout. A young artist has “borrowed” his absent neighbor’s fancy
furniture in order to impress a big art dealer and his potential future
father-in-law on a very special night.
But then the lights go out and things get very messy when the neighbor arrives
home early…and in the dark. “One of the funniest and most brilliant short plays in the language….” – London Sunday Times “A dazzling comic ballet…” - NY Daily News
