Sedition

By David Wiltse

The Good German by playwright David Wiltse was a huge hit for the Shadowland in 2006.  The same creative team returns to stage a striking new historical, yet timely drama about war, patriotism and courage.

Based on a true story, Sedition is the New York premiere and will be a co-production with Playwrights’ Theatre of New Jersey.

It’s the eve of World War I at the University of Nebraska. The popular head of the German department is persuaded to speak out against the potential war.  And soon his family, community, university and country all come crashing in on him.

"Thrilling…it crackles with tension and wit.  A playwright who rattles the way you see things must be doing something right. Mr. Wiltse reaches back to his own family history, chronicling his grandfather's World War I run-in with the enforcers of patriotism.  It’s a compelling story.” – New York Times
